For the course Design Strategy & Software, students were given the liberty to rebrand their favorite music artists, and of course, I chose to do Joe Hisaishi, the composer of the soundtracks for Nausicaä, Laputa, Totoro, Kiki, Porco, Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl. I was inspired by the Japanese concept of ma, or emptiness of space, which has a profound role in Hisaishi’s musical ideas. With this in mind, I landed on a scheme that was kept simple rather than made complex.
